Myocardial uptake of the “bone seeking” tracer 99mTc-DPD (and presumably
99mTc-PYP as well) helps differentiate transthyretinrelated amyloidosis from other types
of amyloidosis such as AL or secondary amyloidosis.
Identification of familial transthyretin related amyloidosis by this
technique could lead to treatment by liver transplantation
Our patient very likely has senile transthyretin related amyloidosis and
is not a candidate for liver transplantation
